Approaches to Learning
The
‘Approaches to Learning' underpin everything we do at PMPS by:
- Identifying and catering for the
individual learning needs of each child by differentiating groups of students,
maintaining flexible grouping for those who have particular needs e.g. GATE,
NESB.
- Encouraging reflective thought and
action.
- Enhancing the relevance of new
learning - challenging students to use or apply what they discover in new
contexts and in new ways.
- Creating a supportive learning
environment by fostering positive relationships that are caring, inclusive,
non-discriminatory and cohesive.
- Developing independence in the
learning process i.e. learning how to learn rather than what to learn. It is
through the curriculum contexts that the process of independent learning is
developed and applied.
- Prioritising literacy and numeracy
in planning, timetabling and resourcing.
- Encouraging active and meaningful
participation by students through learning conversations and partnerships.
- Integrating new learning where
appropriate and facilitate shared learning.
- Providing sufficient opportunities
to learn by providing new learning a number of times in a variety of different tasks
and in a variety of different contexts.
- Providing a variety of technologies
to support and enhance learning.
