Worm Bin
The school was extremely fortunate to have a new worm
farm delivered to school which was funded by the P.T.A. This worm farm can produce both worm tea
(fertilizer) and worm casting (compost).
Each class
had the opportunity to listen to Colin McPike from ‘Worms R Us'. Students could ask questions about what a
worm farm does, the benefits of using a worm farm and how to maintain one. The
area around the worm farm will be developed into an outdoor education area
where children can learn more about the environment and understand how they are
contributing positively to maintain our earth's systems now, and for the
future. The worms eat
our food scraps and process them into castings which are used on our
gardens. This reduces the rubbish we
produce and makes an excellent soil conditioner. As a school we are working hard to reduce
and recycle our waste. Ongoing
world events continue to highlight the increasing importance of finding ways to
live sustainably and the need to pass on life skills and knowledge to our
children. Never doubt that small actions can make a big difference.
iPads
Six iPads were purchased in Term 3. The iPads are currently doing the circuit of the classroom across the school. Mrs Lowden attended an iPad workshop run my Stuart Hale. Mrs Lowden came back with some wonderful new Apps which can be used in all Year levels. There are so many Apps available with some being designed to target students with learning needs.
The iPads are an invaluable tool to support learning in all areas and all year levels.
