Ronald McDonald
Ronald McDonald and a Traffic Education Officer
visited Year 1 and 2 recently, spreading a road safety message,
in a fun way. This was followed up by a Safe Walking
study over several weeks, in which students were taught
specific skills they need to use footpaths safely. Senior
Constable White, staff and parents took students outside
the school to be tested fort their Safe Walking Licences,
and this was enjoyed by all. Back in the classroom, the
practical test was followed up with further teaching by
teachers and Senior Constable White
Pigeon Mountain School Walking Bus
A new initiative is underway to start walking
buses. These need the support of parents and children to
become a reality. The Auckland City Council supports the
initiative, and has a website full of information (www.eeca.govt.nz).
So far, 3 tentative routes have been proposed, and the Council
Engineer has checked these out thoroughly. The first will
start, as a trial of 4-6 weeks, Mondays, Wednesdays and
Fridays, starting Monday 25 July (Day 1, Term 3) before
school. The route is attached. It begins 8.15am from the
corner of Prince Regent Drive and Himalaya Drive. A parent
is co-ordinating the first Walking Bus, but she would like
support. If you are interested helping her, or using the
Walking Bus, please contact the school office for details
(Ph 534-9765). We would love to hear from you. If the first
Walking Bus is successful, other routes would be considered
