From the Acting Principal

It is an honour and privilege to introduce myself to you as the Acting Principal of Pigeon Mountain Primary School. I look forward to carrying the torch for PMPS over the course of the year as we continue to provide Education with a Heart. I look forward to seeing many of you in the next two days for your three-way conferences – this is such a wonderful opportunity for talking about your child’s learning journey!

Staff Farewells and Introductions

At the end of this week, we farewell a number of longstanding staff members who have made amazing contributions to our school and our community.

Miss Alicia Doughty will leave us as she will be travelling back to Perth where she will be reacquainted with her extended family. Alicia started at PMPS in 2016. During the course of her eight years serving at our school she has held responsibilities in team leadership, strategic leadership, maths curriculum, PB4L, health and safety and Board representation. She will be well missed by Puriri Team and Room 1 especially, however, Alicia is known by all of the students by the motivation and positivity she exudes every Monday at PB4L assembly. Today we made a special tribute to Miss Doughty with every value heart having HER name! Alicia embodies Education with a Heart, and we will miss her positivity, warmth and kindness.

Miss Madi Lusby will be heading overseas shortly to begin her tour round the world. Madi began her teaching career at Pigeon Mountain Primary in 2022 and attained her full registration last year. She has demonstrated her versatility by moving from Year 3 to Year 6 this year and has contributed a great deal to our school’s sporting opportunities over the last two years.

Miss Sarah Gleeson who joined our teaching staff last year also leaves us to head off to Australia shortly. Sarah’s knack for technology has led to creative and innovative learning in her class and she has contributed positively to both Kauri and Titoki teams.

We express our admiration and gratitude to our 3 colleagues, and wish the departees good luck and best wishes for the next steps in their journey!

We are looking forward to the arrival of our new teachers Meghna Gupta (R1), Lauren MacKenzie (R18), and David Blake (R22) for the beginning of Term 2!

A reminder that school closes for the end of Term 1 on Friday at 3pm this week.

Road Safety at and around school

Walking, scooting and biking are all excellent ways to keep healthy and active when travelling to and from school. At assembly today, we reminded our students to be responsible and road safe when travelling with a scooter or bike. Helmets should be worn 100% of the time if children are riding a bike or scooter – no exceptions. Students may not use wheels in the school grounds during school hours (unless it is an organised event) and so we ask that they push their mode of transport until they reach the gate. Students are responsible for locking their vehicles in the cycle stands during school hours.

Furthermore, the police recommend that no child under the age of 10 should cycle to school unless accompanied by an adult.
