From the Principal

During the 2 week break, I was fortunate to be able to attend the 30th NZSTA (NZ School Trustees’ Association) Conference in Dunedin along with the other Pigeon Mountain Primary  School board members. The conference reinforced for me the importance of the role of trustees, and the value of effective governance in education to ensure all students reach their potential. We have a newly elected group of 3 board members, and a staff trustee who will be working alongside 3 re-elected representatives, and I know each trustee found the event extremely useful in reinforcing the importance and immense responsibility each has over the coming 3 years. To find out more about our new board, visit our website https://www.pigeon-mountain.school.nz/board-of-trustees/

School Uniforms

Our contract with NZ Uniforms to supply Pigeon Mountain’s uniform is almost complete, and we have already begun work with John Russell Schoolwear (http://www.johnrussellmenswear.co.nz/index.html) to provide high quality garments. Between August and late November, items of uniform will steadily appear in the John Russell shop, and our complete range of uniforms will be available in-store from December. We are already grateful to John Russell Schoolwear for ordering and supplying long-sleeved polo shirts to a number of our parents, and would like to let you know that if you need items of uniform in coming months, especially polo or PE shirts, the friendly staff at the John Russell shop on Moore Street in Howick are able to order and supply them for you. Generally, the items in John Russell Schoolwear are very similar in price from NZ Uniforms- a number are even slightly cheaper. Where the new price is higher, the garments are of higher quality and will be more durable than before. The PE shirts are now made of a moisture wicking material, specifically designed for sport, which will be longer wearing than the old cotton shirts. Old PE shirts can still be worn during 2020, and will become obsolete in 2021.

Girls’ culottes were $52, now $58

Boys’ shorts were $48, now $38

Long unisex pants were $50, now $50

Short sleeved polo shirts were $35, now $28

Long sleeved polo shirts were $40, now $32

Polar fleeces were $54, now $62.50

Outdoor rain jackets were $50, now $50

PE shirts were $13, now $20

PE shorts were $28, now $23

We are purchasing unsold items of uniform from NZ Uniforms and we will be selling these through school at a number of events and pop up stores- more information to follow.

Principal’s Email Group

Please take time to check out the responses of the Principal’s Email Group to our 4 surveys so far in 2019. This group of parents support our school by participating in short surveys on a number of themes throughout the year. We use the responses to help our review and planning processes.

BOT News

The Board of Trustees all attended the NZSTA (NZ School Trustees’ Association) Conference in Dunedin during the July holidays. This event is an important professional learning and development opportunity for board members.

The board are currently working on compiling a conditions assessment of the school buildings and infrastructure for the new 10 Year Property Plan. We are funded each 5 years for major repair and redevelopment works, and this funding is used to address priorities identified in the assessment such as Health and Safety issues, structural work, roofing and drainage problems. Remaining funds will then be utilised to modernise more learning spaces. This work is likely to take place in 2020.
